Loss of a Pet

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Loss of a pet in heavily on my mind today, so just will share some thoughts with you. Grief is something I am quiet familiar with in my lifetime. I have never walked in these shoes before and I don’t like the fit but will shed them for wonderful memories of shoes worn previously and over so many miles of smiles.

Last evening, I lost my little dog-a long-haired Chihuahua to an accident on the highway that is really busy with over 3,000 vehicles, estimated daily.

He loved to play with the farm dog and enjoyed that so much that when we would be gone for a couple of hours, we would let him play and run the farm. The older dog loved to tease the barn cats and so did Buster. They would not hurt them, just make them run back to inside the big barn on our farm.

His favorite thing in the house is when I went to the recliner chair and after I was barely seated, he would jump upon the chair, do a circle and back in beside me and go right to sleep, sometimes tossing and turning and even putting a paw up occasionally, doing a stretch and shut-off my laptop.

He loved going places with us and was an excellent rider and a great companion. He loved going especially on the 4-wheeler with me. He would sit in the little box right beside my seat and let his hair blow for hours. Recently we all went 4-wheeling for 3 days and guess where my little Buster was? right beside me!

How does one deal with the loss of a pet? Well, my way today is sharing the love of Buster, the joy, the pride of ownership with you, my readers. I hope that you will be so kind as to share you love stories with my readers as well.

Have you ever felt something like this quote send to me by a friend?

“I walk in and out of many worlds.”
–Joy Harjo, CREEK/CHEROKEE
In my mind are many dwellings. Each of the dwellings we create ourselves – the house of anger, the house of despair, the house of self pity, the house of indifference, the house of negative, the house of positive, the house of hope, the house of joy, the house of peace, the house of enthusiasm, the house of cooperation, the house of giving. Each of these houses we visit each day. We can stay in any house for as long as we want. We can leave these mental houses any time we wish. We create the dwelling, we stay in the dwelling, we leave the dwelling whenever we wish. We can create new rooms, new houses. Whenever we enter these dwellings, this becomes our world until we leave for another. What world will we live in today?

Creator, no one can determine which dwelling I choose to enter. No one has the power to do so, only me. Let me choose wisely today!

Yes, it is with a joyful heart for having know Buster for a few short months. Yes, my heart hurts today without his championship!
Give your pet a hug today!

Thanks for being here!

Head to Toe with Health Matters

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Good morning,

Yes, health really matters to all of us, starting from before we are born to the day we are no longer living. Health should be our number one priority on a daily basis. Its really bad to decline physically. Mental decline is even worse. The idea of losing cognitive ability frightens everyone.  It’s especially frightening if you’ve witnessed anyone descend into the abyss of Alzheimer’s. Our ability to think makes us human.  Our memories are the record of our life.  When dementia robs a person of these, they’ve lost something truly precious.

It’s possible to grow old and age minimally.  But it doesn’t happen by accident.  Habitual choices carry long term consequences.  Research gives us some pretty strong suggestions on how to stay sharp as we grow old.

Here’s a quick rundown of some ways to maintain your mental edge over time.  You’ll see some familiar recommendations.  A healthy lifestyle benefits all of you, including your brain.

Exercise, lots of raw vegetables, raw fruits, salads of which I believe need to be organically grown to be the best for us, laughter, friends, family, good books and spiritual growth are a few that I see as adding to the quality of our lives.

You know this to be true — you’ve seen it.   I’m sure at some point you’ve met a person with plenty of years under his or her belt who was still sharp as anything.  Aren’t those people a delight?  Don’t they exude life?

I would like for us all to take an active in our health as health truly matters for all of us. I’m sure your list if you honestly take the time to look at your loved ones and your lifestyle will have other points of interest. Yes, we will be visiting lots of other ideas as we go along here.
