Stress and Sleep

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Good afternoon,

Stress and sleep just don’t go together very well do they? If you have children going back to school and the summer routine has been drastically changed so bedtimes are changed and of course, time to get up when that alarm goes off, then this causes stress on our bodies and of our loved ones.

Hopefully this is temporary sleeplessness and you will get back to a routine of sleep and this helps that brain fog. At this time, drinking lots of water and eating really nutritional meals will help our bodies adapt to this change. Sleeplessness caused our bodies to perform poorly at home, at work, and it in our social settings. The stress levels increase also.

What you wear to bed makes a difference also in our quality of sleep. Using clean hypo-allergenic pajamas, sheets, pillowcases and mattress covers decrease our possibilities of breathing irritants also.

You may want or like a light in your bedroom but studies show that a dark sleeping room for the best sound sleep. Adults need from 7 to 9 hours of sleep and we shouldn’t shortchange ourselves to be our best. This can vary some, and you will know what the required amount is for you.

Sleep is when our brains process lots of thoughts so positive thoughts are so important when going to bed. Never go to bed after an argument, as the brain will not be rested by the next day. Sleep is the time when our bodies rejuvenate and heal themselves.

Mediating and reading a book is a great way to relax. Please do not have a TV in the bedroom. This is not a positive thing to do at all as there is so much negative news and programs that it causes our bodies not to relax and repair.

I’m So Tired I Can’t Stay Awake

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Good afternoon,

Or is it? Are you saying I’m so tired I can’t stay awake about now? Why are you so tired these days? yes, occasionally we have a poor night’s sleep but is it every night of struggling to get some sleep?

How about some ideas on what to help with this health matter for us? First, make sure that your bedroom is the proper environment for great sleeping. Is it dark, quiet, and at a comfortable temperature? Do you have a TV in your bedroom? Take it out and leave it out. Use for bedroom for sleep and sex only.

Do not do your exercises just before bedtime as this also stimulates the brain and your muscles and bedtime is for you to be in a relaxed state so your body is ready to rest.

You might not want to eat your biggest meals in the evening or at least eat them early so they can digest before bedtime. If spicy meals cause heartburn or discomfort, they will keep you from resting properly and can even wake you up.

Remember when you were a child and it was bedtime, didn’t you read a book to them and when they got a little older they read their books for themselves? How about adding that practice to your evening or do your mediating in the evenings to allow your body to relax?

How about sipping on a cup of tea or coffee that doesn’t have all that caffeine in them? Yes  tthere are ones available to all of us. Include a warm bath or shower in the evenings to relax, with some relaxing music playing.

Tips for your health can be found here also and get some quality sleep to ensure a quality day and better health for yourself.

I’m so tired that I can’t stay awake will not a part of your life, with some of these tips for you.

Controling Sleep Apnea

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Good afternoon,
Do you have an issue with controlling sleep apnea in your family? Do you have anyone that snores in your family such as yourself, a child, a hubby or a special friend?
What is sleep apnea? there are lots of ideas if you go researching this subject such as there are risks of heart disease, falling asleep at the wheel while driving a vehicle, excessive tiredness during the day, falling asleep when ever you sit down even for a few minutes, affects working at a job, breaks concentration, just for a few of the risks of sleep apnea.

My hubby was diagnosed with sleep apnea. He would scare me awake at night when he would quit breathing for up to 72 seconds. He snored terribly and when he would sit for even a few minutes would be asleep. I remember making the comment that he slept more than a baby does. His snoring was constant at night and therefore affected my sleep as well. When he was diagnosed, they measured his neck for size of it and made the comment that most men with necks of over 19 inches are subject to apnea or have sleep apnea. Now isn’t that an interesting idea.

Did you know that even children have sleep apnea? Yes, the clinic that my hubby goes to said that they have quit a few children with sleep apnea using the breathing apparatus, but I call it the ‘breathing machine’. Sometimes facial structures can cause the airway passage to be narrow and this will cause sleep apnea also.

Now don’t get me wrong, just because you snore doesn’t always means that you have sleep apnea. It when there are huge silences when someone is supposed to be breathing naturally while sleeeping and then that gasping for that next breath, sometimes waking up in a sweat, dry mouth and possible sore throat from breathing and then that excessive tiredness all of the time as they are getting very little actual rest during the night.
There are other reasons for controlling sleep apnea but this is some of the experiences that I have dealt with and will deal with as the ‘breathing machine’ is a constant companion of my hubby’s wherever he goes now. Sleep apnea has serious consequences and can even be life-threatening when there is sleep deprivation and then the oxygen deprivation for any individual.

More information can be obtained on sleep apnea or sleep disorders , so take a stand and learn more about it for yourself.
