Feeling Blue is Un-Healthy

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Good morning,

As I’m sitting here writing to all of you today, excited that we were spared from the storms raging across the middle of the States again yesterday, there are those that were hailed-out, which means that they will not have a wheat crop to harvest, there are fences washed out, storm damage from the hail is unbelievable with windows out of homes and vehicles. There is also property damage to homes, business and farms. This is one form of being and feeling blue on this day.

Another form of feeling blue, is having that feeling if you are dealing with serious dis-eases such as cancer. The best time is now before you have to deal with cancers, is considering your diet and lifestyle.

Why don’t we start when we have those family get-to-gathers by checking to see if cancers are in our family trees?

This is a preventative measure for starters. Some ideas and suggestions for us to consider are getting adequate exercise as that helps defend against cancer and practically everything else.

One big reason is that insulin resistance, the precursor to type 2 diabetes, that exercise helps control, and also seems to increase the risk of several different types of cancers.

The single biggest controllable risk factor, you guessed it, is our diets. Well, tobacco is the number one but that is another topic, right? Did you know that it is estimated that over 35% of the reasons for cancer, are our diets?

Eating plant foods, such as raw veggies, raw fruits, and beans supply a huge amount of anti-oxidants that can keep cancers from attacking our systems. To also protect ourselves we need to watch how we cook red meats, especially this summer on those grills, it will produce carcinogenic compounds when cooked over high heat and especially flames. Eating in moderation is always a good policy and more healthy for us. Over consumption of alcohol is also a great danger to our health, here again, moderation is the key for health. Drinking those drinks filled with sugars of all types and those diet drinks filled with all those foreign substances are very dangerous as well.

It is a proven fact that having a positive view of life will improve our life also. Do your best to think positive thoughts as thoughts can and do create your life. It’s very clear that depression and isolation lead to a number of chronic dis-eases including cancers. Feeling blue is dangerous for our bodies as well as our minds. Go for a walk-exercise, appreciate those flowers, birds singing, children laughing and yourself.

Please don’t fall into the trap of thinking you are fated to develop cancer. Just try and understand your family history. Exercise daily or at least several times per week, eat that diet of lots of raw veggies ,raw fruits and everything that will help keep your body loaded with anti-oxidants so you can avoid that one dis-ease that everyone fears the most.

Fight Cancer with Rainbow Colors

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Good afternoon,

Are you enjoying a summer day? If so, I’m sure you’re thinking of eating some fruits that will make you think of something cool, for instance, watermelon or any of the melon family, fresh garden lettuce, fresh spinach, radishes, or any of your favorite spring vegetables and fruits.

One of the best ways to keep cancer from developing is to make raw fruits and raw veggies a major part of our daily diet, as you have heard that the American Cancer Society recommends eating 5 or more servings of raw fruits and raw veggies on a daily basis.

What is really important for your health is to pick them from the color spectrum to get the widest range of phytonutrients, you know, that substance that gives plants their disease-fighting powers. You can find defenders in the variety of different colors of the rainbow.

White, will take you to the onion, garlic and their families of the pungent cousins that provide us with allyl sulfides, which help promote the excretion of cancer-promoting substances.

Yellow, is where we will find Quercetin, which is found in most produce, and it will help protect against several cancers. Limonene, which is found in lemon and noni, helps our liver clear out toxins. High intakes of lutein which are found in the mango fruit and also winter squash, help reduce risks of breast, prostate and other cancers.

Green, with all of the chlorophyll, is found in leafy greens, spirulina and in barley grasses and protects genes against damage. Sulforaphane is the stuff in broccoli that provides us with a tumor fighter because it help cells promote natural cell death and cancers that might be trying to invade our bodies. Members of the broccoli family also contain indole-3-carbinal, which helps the body break down toxins.

Red contains the lycopene found in tomatoes and in watermelon. It is known for providing  protection against prostate cancer. Ellagic acid is found in pomegranate and raspberry, apparently helps protect us with the lining of the digestive track against carcinogenic substances.

Blue/Purple is our resveratrol, that substance that gives wine its healthy representation, may help slow tumor growth. Anthocyanins are found in berries and in these really great fruits such as acia, mangosteen and goji, will help us defend our DNA against damage and it also has shown an ability to keep cancers from spreading in our bodies.

I hope this gives you some good food ideas. I have a couple of recommendations for you as, to me, your health matters. They are:

I want to help you prevent cancer and if you have a loved one or yourself that is dealing with cancer now these are excellent helpful guides for you. I have read and recommended them to my friends.

Diet and Cancer

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Good afternoon,

It seems like everyone that you know has some type of cancer in their family. It seems like it doesn’t matter whether they are young or older, it is there. I personally think  that our diets have lots to do with this. I think that over-cooking, over processing, prepared foods and all the sugary drinks that we consume has a lot to do with this.

Lets start by looking at some of our processing processes. Did you know that  in cooking your fruits and vegetables that you will lose approximately 66% when you actually boil them, when pressure cooking our foods-53% of all the antioxidants are lost, steaming our foods you lose the least amount of nutrients, now microwaving our foods destroys about 97% of the flavonoids in them, even freezing and blanching our veggies and fruits will destroy the necessary ingredients our bodies need to keep our immune systems at their best. Frying and baking also destroys the all-important Vitamin E needed for our defense systems.

This is another reason for us to incorporate all the raw foods into our diets on a daily basis and several times daily. Why would we want to cook our foods and destroy  nutrients,as an example-cabbage- and when cooked it loses abut 75% of the Vitamin C? The same goes for cooking those fresh peas that are available now in our gardens and at farmer’s markets.

The more that we let the commercial food industry control our lives, the more dis-ease that we have in our lives. There is no way for it to be as truly healthy for us as when it is fresh picked and eaten raw. Any time that we try or attempt to make things better than the original form that they are grown, we destroy the wonderful, amazing abilities of the raw veggies and raw fruits.

Too much meat and too much sugar is also very dangerous for your health and also causes cancer.

Any nutrients lost will determine lots of things in our bodies, how it reacts to infections, how it repairs itself, how it heals itself, how our body deals with toxins and other foreign things that are in our processed foods.

Dealing with cancer is learning how to feed our bodies with proper nutrition. Leaning to get back to the basics of raw foods, learning what and how our bodies can do better on a daily basis. We need to learn to take care of our bodies as good as, no, I’d say better than we take care of our cars. By that I don’t mean to just go to the medical community and get a prescription for an ailment or pain, I mean to deal with all of our issues with our bodies with the use of natural, organic foods grown by our local farmers. We need to put that much love into taking care of our bodies so they won’t ache, be diseased with cancer or other dis-eases that tear our bodies apart and also that of our finances and families. Let’s learn to stop the pain before it starts, rather than after it hurts or cancer sets in and deals with us in an awful way.

Attitudes to the link between diet and cancer are changing fast. The World Cancer Research Fund was founded specifically to fund and sponsor education and research into the diet-cancer link. Did you know that there is mounting evidence that the high fat intake in a typical Western diet, along with the low intake of nutritious foods such as vegetables, fruits and whole-grains, may be responsible for up to 35% of cancers?

I personally believe that in lots of areas of our country that 35% is a low number of cancer cases. This is serious, please take it serious and add those fresh veggies and fresh fruits. You will not be disappointed and your body will thank you.
